The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is made in a lineup of eight trims: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate. The base engine for the Pro, SLE, and Elevation is a 2.7-liter “TurboMax” four-cylinder that delivers 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque. These trims can be upgraded to a 5.3-liter V8 (355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque), which is standard on the SLT and Denali.
A 3.0-liter six-cylinder Duramax turbodiesel making 305 horsepower and 495 lb.-ft. of torque is standard on the AT4, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate trims, which can be upgraded to a 6.2-liter V8 producing 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. The turbodiesel is optional on the SLE, Elevation, SLT, and Denali.
The four-cylinder engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the other engines use a ten-speed automatic. Most Sierra trims have rear-wheel drive as the base drivetrain, with four-wheel drive optional or standard on the AT4, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate.
Three cab styles are offered: regular (two doors), double (two standard front doors and two smaller rear doors), and crew (four standard doors). The bed lengths on offer include short (69.92 inches), standard (79.44 inches), and long (98.20 inches). The regular cab is only available on the Pro trim with a standard or long bed. The double cab with a standard bed can be ordered for the Pro, SLE, and Elevation trims. All Sierra trims are available in a crew cab configuration with a short or standard bed, while the AT4X and Denali Ultimate are crew cab/short bed-only.
The Sierra 1500’s payload capacity ranges from 1,880 to 2,240 pounds, and the maximum towing capacity runs between 9,200 and 13,200 pounds depending on trim and equipment. The EPA-determined fuel economy varies by trim, engine, drivetrain, and other features. The turbo four-cylinder is rated for 17 to 19 mpg in the city and 18 to 22 mpg on the highway. The 5.3-liter V8 is rated at 15 to 16 mpg city/17 to 21 mpg highway, while the 6.2-liter V8 gets 14 to 15 mpg city/17 to 19 mpg highway. The 3.0-liter Duramax Diesel achieves 21 to 24 mpg around town and 23 to 29 mpg on the open road.

All 2024 Sierra models include the GMC Pro Safety suite of driver-assist technologies. The AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate also get a safety alert seat, which is optional on the SLT. This feature activates vibration in the seat to alert the driver about critical safety notifications in conjunction with certain GMC Pro Safety features. Super Cruise hands-free highway driving is available only on the Denali and Denali Ultimate.
The Sierra Pro has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment array with a multi-speaker audio system, while higher trims advance to a 13.4-inch touchscreen.
