Trims, Configurations, and Powertrains

The 2024 Sierra HD is the newest edition of GMC’s heavy-duty full-sized pickup truck. It’s made in 2500 and 3500 models and seven trim levels: Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. Regular, extended, and crew cabs are offered as well, with a dual rear-wheel (dually) arrangement optional for the 3500s.

The redesigned Sierra HD’s standard powertrain pairs a 6.6-liter V8 engine (401 hp and 464 lb.-ft. of torque) with the newly standard Allison 10-speed automatic transmission. The available option (standard in the Denali Ultimate) is a revised 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel that makes 470 hp and 975 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2024 GMC Sierra HD is also one of the most prolific haulers in the industry, with the crew cab version boasting a best-in-class towing max of 22,070 lb. and a total towing threshold of 36,000 lb. for the 3500. A Sierra HD with the Duramax turbo-diesel powertrain can now tow up to 22,500 lb.

Equipment by Trim Level

GM equips the base-level Pro trim with plenty of workday necessities, plus a little more. It has remote keyless entry, LED headlights and LED daytime running lights, vertical trailering mirrors, a front-console 12V power outlet, single-zone automatic climate control, two USB ports in the instrument panel, and a 40/20/40-split front bench seat. The SLE is upgraded with GM’s six-function MultiPro Tailgate, power-adjustable trailering mirrors, tinted rear glass, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, cruise control, push-button ignition, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The SLT is enhanced on the outside with all-terrain tires, LED fog lights, auto-dimming and power-folding/extending trailering mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, a box-mounted 120V power outlet, and remote start. Its cabin has power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, an additional 120V power outlet, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and two rear-console USB ports. Along with that, this trim’s perforated-leather front-row seats have outboard heating and driver’s position memory settings, while the rear bench seat has a useful underfloor storage compartment. The SLT also comes with GM’s ProGrade trailering system (a 14-view camera system, an in-vehicle trailering app, Hitch Guidance, and Hitch View).

The adventure-ready AT4 is set up with a variety of overlanding enhancements, such as a two-speed transfer case, 4WD, hill descent control, an off-road suspension, red recovery hooks, skid plates, a spray-on bedliner, and a bed-view camera system. For comfort and convenience, it gets ventilated front bucket seats, heated rear outboard seats, center-console USB ports, and a wireless phone charger. The freshly introduced AT4X is scaled up with a driver-selectable e-locking rear differential, an improved off-road suspension with a 1.5-inch factory-installed lift and Multimatic DSSV dampers, a skid plate for the transfer case, power-retractable assist steps with LED perimeter lighting, a sunroof, a 15-inch head-up display, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power-sliding rear window, full-grain leather upholstery, massaging front seats, trailer tire pressure and temperature sensors, and a universal home remote.

The Denali builds off the AT4’s equipment list with chrome exterior accents, a power-sliding rear window, and a universal garage door opener. Meanwhile, the Denali Ultimate takes after the AT4X, although it omits the enhanced off-road suspension, transfer-case skid plate, and selectable e-locking rear differential. Many of those premium amenities can be added to the lower trims through the Sierra HD’s variety of upgrade packages.

Active Safety Tech

The Pro Safety Package, a full array of safety tech, now comes standard in the Sierra HD. In the lower trims, the included components are forward collision alert, a following distance indicator, front pedestrian braking, IntelliBeam (automatic high beams), lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and GM’s Buckle to Drive system, which temporarily prevents the vehicle from being shifted out of park until the driver’s seatbelt is fastened. The AT4 and above add front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, trailer side blind-zone alert, and a safety alert seat that vibrates in the direction of potential collisions. Adaptive cruise control comes standard in the AT4X and Denali Ultimate, but it can be ordered as an option on the AT4 and Denali.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Pro trim’s multimedia system is made up of a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, a six-speaker sound system, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The SLE and above trims are upgraded with an enhanced Google Built-in system (which includes Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play store). It has a class-best 13.4-inch touchscreen along with voice recognition and SiriusXM satellite radio. The AT4 and Denali provide a superior listening experience thanks to their seven-speaker Bose audio unit, but true audiophiles will be drawn to the Denali Ultimate and its 12-speaker Bose setup.
