The 2024 Terrain is sold in four well-equipped trim packages: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. Each is enlivened by a powertrain made up of a 175-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard in the SLE and SLT, but they’re eligible for all-wheel drive, which is standard in the AT4 and Denali. The Terrain is fuel-efficient, with FWD models returning an EPA-estimated 24 mpg around town and 29 mpg on the highway, which dips only slightly to 23 city/28 highway with AWD. For all configurations, the towing capacity tops out at 1,500 pounds.
The SLE is generously equipped with desirable features, such as proximity keyless entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, single-zone automatic climate control, heated side mirrors, automatic LED headlights, two USB charging ports, and a 60/40-split folding rear seatback. The SLT introduces remote start, perforated leather upholstery, fog lights, a hands-free liftgate, heated power-adjustable front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a universal garage door opener, a 110V power outlet, ambient interior lighting, and roof rails. The AT4 is ready to head off the pavement with its standard AWD and skid plate. At the top of the hierarchy, the Denali takes desirability to the next level with an improved suspension, a reconfigurable 8-inch driver information display, a head-up display, and wireless phone charging.
Every 2024 Terrain trim comes with the GMC Pro Safety suite, which features forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a following distance indicator, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, and automatic high beams. The AT4 and Denali expand their features with GMC Pro Safety Plus (available for the SLE and SLT), which bundles adaptive cruise control, lane change alert with side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and GM’s proprietary Safety Alert Seat. With the Denali, the GMC Pro Safety Plus bundle also includes front parking sensors. Every Terrain trim also gets Teen Driver, an educational system designed to assist new drivers with forming good on-road habits.
The infotainment system in the base SLE is contained within a 7-inch touchscreen and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, voice recognition, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and an audio system with six speakers. The SLT and higher move up to an 8-inch touchscreen; the Denali also gets integrated navigation and a seven-speaker Bose sound system.
The various 2024 Terrain trims are eligible for certain optional equipment groupings. The Driver Convenience Package (available for the SLE) includes remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats with power adjustability for the driver, and roof rails. The SLE can also be enhanced with the Infotainment I Package, which incorporates an 8-inch touchscreen, built-in navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, a 110V power outlet, additional USB ports, and an improved rearview camera. There’s also the Infotainment II Package for the SLT and AT4; it adds navigation and a seven-speaker Bose audio system. The Denali Premium Package adds adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assist, a surround-view camera, ventilated front seats, and heated rear outboard seats. Finally, the Tech Package for the SLT, AT4, and Denali supplies a surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, and a head-up display. When it’s added to the Denali, it also includes automatic parking assist and adaptive cruise control.
