Lengths, Trims, and Powertrain

GMC offers the Yukon in two lengths: the standard Yukon is 210.1 inches long, while the Yukon XL is 225.2 inches long. This larger footprint translates into greater cargo space and additional third-row legroom. Besides these dimensional differences, the Yukon and Yukon XL are matched in trims, equipment, and features.

The 2025 Yukon/Yukon XL is available in five trim packages: Elevation, AT4, Denali, AT4 Ultimate, and Denali Ultimate. The Elevation and Denali have standard rear-wheel drive (RWD), with four-wheel drive (4WD) optional and standard on the other trims. Power for the Elevation and AT4 comes from a 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8, while a 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 is available for those two trims and standard with the AT4 Ultimate and both Denali editions. All Yukons can be equipped with the revamped 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder Duramax Diesel, which makes 305 horsepower (a 28-horsepower increase from last year). A ten-speed automatic transmission is standard with all.

The EPA-estimated fuel economy varies slightly depending on the engine, vehicle length, and drivetrain, but the V8s deliver 14 or 15 mpg in the city and 18 to 20 mpg on the highway. GMC hasn’t stated the fuel economy ratings for the Duramax Diesel, but an approximate 40% improvement over the V8 gas engines is typical for diesel powerplants.

When the third-row seats are in use, the Yukon provides 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space, while the Yukon XL offers 41.5 cubic feet. With the third row folded down, cargo capacity increases to 72.6 cubic feet in the Yukon and 93.8 cubic feet in the Yukon XL. Folding down the second and third rows creates a maximum cargo space of 122.9 cubic feet in the Yukon and 144.7 cubic feet in the Yukon XL. The GMC Yukon can tow up to 8,400 pounds when it’s properly equipped (8,200 pounds for the Yukon XL).

Standard Features

The eight-passenger Elevation trim leaves the factory with an extensive range of amenities, including CoreTec leatherette/leather-trimmed seats, heated eight-way power front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row outboard seats, a driver’s memory system, tri-zone automatic climate control, rear air conditioning, a power liftgate, an 11-inch driver information display, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, and remote start. Rounding out the equipment list are wireless device charging, USB ports, LED exterior lighting, LED fog lamps, rear privacy glass, roof-mounted side rails, assist steps, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a rear camera washer, and 20-inch wheels.

The AT4 improves the Yukon’s off-road prowess with magnetic ride control, a unique front fascia with a high-approach angle, all-terrain tires, a performance front skid plate, and a heavy-duty air filter. This trim also gets perforated leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats with additional power controls, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering column, and a dual-outlet exhaust. The seven-passenger Denali expands on the Elevation with perforated leather upholstery, magnetic ride control, heated and ventilated front seats with additional power controls, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering column, power-release second-row captain’s chairs, a power-sliding center console, a head-up display, a dual-outlet exhaust, and 20-inch wheels.

The AT4 Ultimate expands on the already exceptionally equipped AT4 with a panoramic power sunroof, full-grain leather upholstery, power-retractable assist steps, a head-up display, and front-seat power seats with massage and bolsters. This amenity-laden trim also has an electronic limited-slip differential, power-release second-row captain’s chairs, a power-sliding center console, rear touchscreen climate controls, an air-ride adaptive suspension with height control, an Active Response 4WD system for improved traction, a digital rearview mirror, and the max Trailering Package (with supporting technology and expanded gas engine cooling). The Denali Ultimate has most of the upgrades of the AT4 Ultimate, like a power moonroof and upgraded 4WD system, but expands on the luxury theme of the Denali trim. It also features exclusive 24-inch wheels.
