2026 GMC Canyon

2026 GMC
Canyon

GMC’s midsized pickup has always had much to brag about, pairing class-leading performance with upscale amenities, but the 2026 edition brings even more with a new trim designed for rugged trail rides. The former AT4X Package is now a trim grade of its own, topping the Canyon lineup and rivaling its Chevrolet counterpart, the Colorado ZR2, in off-road prowess. The AT4X rides high on a 3-inch lift, Multimatic dampers, and undercarriage protection, along with locking differentials, an exclusive drive mode, and underbody cameras – a first for this segment. For even higher performance, the AT4X qualifies for an upgrade package courtesy of American Expedition Vehicles, with steel bumpers and skid plates, beadlock-capable wheels, and a 4.5-inch factory lift with jounce control dampers. Elsewhere in the lineup, the Elevation and AT4 both receive new wheel designs for the 2026 model year. Coastal Dune replaces Deep Bronze Metallic in the color palette, and the Black Badging Package gives the Elevation the blacked-out styling formerly reserved for higher trims. The Canyon continues to provide segment-leading attributes: its 430 lb.-ft. of standard torque and 11-inch digital gauge cluster are both best-in-class, and the AT4X leads the class in ground clearance (12.2 inches) with the available 4.5-inch factory lift.

Trims and Powertrain

The 2026 Canyon is offered in four trims: Elevation, AT4, Denali, and AT4X. The powertrain couples a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder TurboMax engine (output: 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque) to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Elevation comes with rear-wheel drive (RWD), but is eligible for the 4-wheel drivetrain (4WD) that the other trims get by default. The RWD Elevation leads the lineup in fuel economy, racking up an EPA-estimated 19 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. The 4WD Elevation, AT4, and Denali all return 17 mpg city/21 mpg highway, while the AT4X drops to 17 mpg for both city and highway. The drive mode selector gives the operator settings for Normal, Terrain, Off-Road, and Tow/Haul, joined by the trim-exclusive Baja mode on the AT4X. The Canyon’s configuration pairs a four-door crew cab with a 61.7-inch bed, mounted atop a fully boxed frame.

The 4WD Elevation gets a single-speed Autotrac transfer case with push-button controls, while the higher trims are outfitted with a two-speed transfer case. An automatic-locking rear differential is standard on all trims and drivetrains, as is off-road suspension with a 2-inch factory lift. The Elevation and AT4 stand 9.6 inches off the ground, while the Denali moves up to 10.5 inches. The AT4X has front and rear driver-selectable full-locking differentials and boasts 10.7 inches of ground clearance, thanks to a 3-inch lift and DSSV Multimatic suspension dampers. The Canyon’s towing limit is 7,700 pounds, and every trim comes with Hitch View, Hitch Guidance, GM’s In-Vehicle Trailering App, and an integrated trailer brake controller.

The three lower trims are all available with blacked-out accents via the Elevation Black Badging Package, the AT4 Nightfall Edition, and the Denali Black Edition.

Safety and Driver-Assist Technology

The Canyon Pro Safety suite is an important part of every 2026 Canyon. It raises the truck’s safety quotient with automatic emergency braking, following distance indicator, forward collision alert, front pedestrian and cyclist braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, and automatic high beams. The Canyon Safety Plus grouping is also included, with rear cross-traffic braking, rear park assist, and blind-zone steering assist with trailering. Also standard is StabiliTrek electronic stability control, rear seat reminder, a rear seatbelt indicator, Buckle-to-Drive, and an HD Rear Vision camera. Teen Driver technology uses a designated key fob to activate safety measures, mutes the audio until the driver and front passenger seatbelts are fastened, and offers driving feedback through an in-vehicle report card for parents to review. The AT4 and AT4X add hill descent control, while the Denali incorporates adaptive cruise control, rear pedestrian alert, a safety alert seat, and HD Surround Vision. The Technology Package can be added to the Elevation for adaptive cruise control, rear pedestrian alert, and HD Surround Vision, while the Technology Plus Package does the same for the AT4.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Canyon boasts an 11.3-inch multimedia touchscreen with Google built-in, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, SiriusXM satellite radio with 360L, and Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming. The Elevation and AT4 have six speakers, while the Denali and AT4X come with an upscale seven-speaker Bose sound system with an external amplifier (available on the AT4 through the Technology Plus Package). Every Canyon has access to OnStar, GM’s connectivity suite, and OnStar Basics comes standard with real-time traffic and navigation, built-in voice assistance, remote commands, and automatic crash response. The Denali comes with three years of OnStar One, with safety services, Wi-Fi, and in-vehicle apps.
