“It's back.” That's all that Chevrolet had to say when it announced the return of Bolt, one of America's favorite – and most affordable – electric vehicles. And that consistent popularity is exactly why it’s back, as Bolt drivers as well as GM execs missed the model and pressured Chevy to revive it. Now, as one of the first 2027 models to come out in the U.S., this latest version resembles the old Bolt, but with safer battery components and improved drivetrain technology for faster charging. Drivers can expect range to reach up to 255 miles – a nominal improvement over the previous Bolt’s peak of 247 miles.
The aforementioned superior charging time is the biggest story for the ’27 Bolt: that peak charging speed of 150 kW translates into 250% quicker charges. Plus, the 2027 Bolt is the first Chevrolet with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port. All of this will make the model more alluring to road-trippers who may have been underwhelmed by the old Bolt’s shortcomings in this aspect.
And, although it’s not the focus of this latest Bolt, appearance is important as well. Fresh front and rear fascia styling makes it clear that this is a new generation of EV. Chevy also refined the interior by introducing a more open dashboard and new storage for the front-row passenger. In addition, the sporty RS trim has joined the lineup, bringing in a longer list of standard features along with racier exterior styling.
